STACK Special: The 411 on Shoulder Injuries

Almost everything we do is athlete specific in some way. Whether it is working with your schedule or customizing your workout, we strive to meet everyone's individual needs.

Christian Dawson, a wide receiver at Western Brown High School, is currently recovering from an operation on his shoulder. I found this article on our partner company's website--Stack Magazine--about shoulder injury rehab and prevention. The shoulder is often overused from repeatedly throwing or swinging, and this article includes some very good exercises for building those shoulder muscles to provide stability to this complex joint. Some of the exercises (like shrugs for example) we like to incorporate into your workouts at Veritas.

Overall, we hope by reading this article you might better understand that training has a number of purposes and benefits. Training doesn't only make you stronger, help you hit harder, jump higher, and run faster. It also plays a major role in preventing those dreaded injuries.

A Letter from the Editor

Readers,
This blog was created to inform people, especially Veritas athletes, how to take care of their body and live a healthy, active lifestyle. We love and appreciate our clients so much and will do whatever it takes to help them succeed. However, we cannot follow them out of the gym and continue to help them make good decisions. Our time with them is short and the decisions that they make outside the gym are essential to their results during our program. Additional activities such as eating healthy foods, doing light exercises, and getting plenty of sleep will help our athletes get the most out of their workouts. They are some of the most motivated and dedicated athletes in the area and they put a lot of time and energy into making themselves such great players. So why not go the extra mile and try out some of our useful tips? From amazing smoothie recipes to stretching exercises that will soothe your soreness, there is a little something for everyone in the Veritas Fitness + Nutrition Journal.
Sincerely,
Megan Scott, Manager

Pre-Workout Snacks That Pack a Protein Punch

Strawberries with Greek Yogurt and Almond Shavings
For our first blog post, we decided to share a link from one of our favorite health and wellness websites.
FitSugar says, "Fueling up before a workout is essential; it gives the body sustained energy and also keeps metabolism going at a consistent pace to help burn calories. For everyday workouts, it's best to choose a snack that's around 150 calories or fewer, with a mix of protein and carbs but not enough fiber to cause digestive upset."
Click HERE or on the link below to check out some homemade snacks that will satisfy your taste buds and fuel your body to work out hard and long.
TIP: To maximize the benefits, eat these snacks an hour before your scheduled workout.
